Posted by Team, 10th July 2017

July 10th, 2017 – Richmond International Academic & Soccer Academy (RIASA) have today announced a partnership with sports management company, Global Image Sports (GIS) in order to develop programs and offerings for North American players wishing to pursue their soccer careers at the college level. The partnership has been brokered through Sports Recruiting USA, who are an industry leading US college placement agency and another partner of GIS.

Phase one of the project will see GIS help provide player pathways and offer introductions to RIASA, giving both parents and players the chance to learn about the opportunity and gain a real insight into the benefits available through such a scheme. GIS will work with players who have been involved in its elite programs and European Residential Academy to give them the option to learn about RIASA and then access its application system.

RIASA are the only American University with full licence to operate in the UK, with both a London & Leeds campus. The Leeds campus holds the football program and players have access to a full training regime, games program, strength and conditioning as well as studying for a degree in International Business & Sports Management. The program is flexible allowing multiple years of stay or registration and for credits to be transferred back to the US if necessary. Internships, European travel and the chance to study overseas are also some of the hidden benefits. The players will be coached by former Middlesbrough & Premier League player, John Hendrie with full access to strength and conditioning coaches, physiotherapists and 24/7 academic support and help integrating into the UK.

The coaching staff includes John Hendrie (ex-Middlesbrough), John Francis (ex-Burnley and Sheffield United) and Rob Jones (Head Coach and ex-Sheffield Wednesday, Doncaster Rovers & Hibernian). Numerous players have ended up being placed and signing professional contracts in England, Finland, Norway, Sweden, Belgium, Denmark, Malta & China.

Director of Football at RIASA, Mark Ellis, said of the partnership, “we are really excited to be announcing this partnership with Global Image Sports today. The program we offer at RIASA has grown a lot in recent years and we have ambitions to continue expanding it and see this as a terrific way to continue to offer a fantastic opportunity to players who are serious about continuing their careers. Not only do they get the chance to get an American degree, live overseas and travel around Europe but they will train in a professional environment and have access to the best coaching. The program has proven success with Nakhi Wells being signed by Huddersfield Town (now in the EPL) in recent years.”

Darran Walter, Operations Director at GIS commented, “we have seen first-hand the excellent work Mark and his team are doing here with RIASA and feel strongly about supporting this program to help offer older players genuine opportunities to progress their careers. We have also witnessed just how powerful living and studying abroad can be for these players in recent years as it gives them a huge advantage off the field in adapting to new environments, diverse cultures and breaking the mould in terms of achieving beyond their potential. We are looking forward to bringing this program to the attention of our players.”

Players attending this year’s GIS National Camps in North America will get an introduction to the program and parents will receive more information about this soon as part of GIS’ commitment to player development.
